Thijske Noordhoek founded Het Zeeplokaal because of her love for pure ingredients. Thijske was driven to live more consciously, but was not yet aware of all the ingredients that a shampoo and body wash contain. Until she started getting a rash from using classic shower gel…
In January 2017 Thijske made her first soap. And with success! Today she owns Het Zeeplokaal with a nice assortment of hand soaps, body soaps, hair soaps and cleaning soaps. You can use hair soaps as an alternative for shampoo. By using the products of Zeeplokaal you are taking care of the health of the environment, yourself and your family.
Ethical
The soaps are handmade in The Netherlands. How? After mixing the vegetable oils with the necessary ingredients, the preformed moulds are filled. This creates the soap bars, which just like cheese, must mature just like cheese. Afterwards, the soap bars are cut and you can buy them in the shop. An ethical and artisan process from start to finish!
Materials
All products at the Zeeplokaal are plant-based. Thijske also chooses to work with organic ingredients as much as possible. The basis of each soap is always vegetable oil, including coconut oil, rapeseed oil, olive oil and almond oil. These oils have a nourishing effect on your skin and hair. For the scrub, the Zeeplokaal uses poppy seeds, not microplastics, which are often found in regular scrubs!
All soaps are also free from harmful chemicals such as sulphates. All classic shampoos and shower gels these days contain this damaging synthetic. They dry out your scalp and make your hair grow slower by absorbing the natural oils on your scalp. Sulphates are also very bad for the environment, affecting life in our waterways.
The Dutch cosmetics brand does not use palm oil. The palm oil industry causes massive deforestation worldwide, threatening the habitats of many animals.
In short, with the natural shampoo and shower gel from the Zeeplokaal you protect the environment and opt for a healthy skin.
Animal wellbeing
Thijske herself is vegetarian, so it is logical that her brand also takes animal welfare into account. All the lovely soaps are vegan friendly, they contain no animal ingredients and are not tested on animals. Because the products do not contain microplastics and the brand does not use plastic packaging, no plastic will end up in the seas either. So, a completely vegan and animal-friendly cosmetics brand, something we at COSH! can only applaud.
However, the brand has no certificate to prove this. We at COSH! know from experience that small brands often cannot afford an expensive certificate, although they do meet the criteria. So as a consumer, it is important to not always be blinded by certificates!
Circular economy
Hard soaps are more environmentally friendly than liquid alternatives because they do not require plastic packaging. Hard soaps can easily be wrapped in paper. Even for shampoos no plastic packaging is used at the Zeeplokaal.
The packaging for the soaps is produced in a climate-neutral printing office and the paper is FSC-certified. This certificate proves that the paper comes from socially and ecologically responsible felling.
By not using plastic packaging and only working with recyclable paper, this Dutch brand can significantly reduces its ecological footprint as well as yours.
Supply chain
The complete production of the handmade soaps takes place in house, in one location. The short chain ensures that few transports are needed. The distance from the production site to your bathroom is kept as short as possible.
