How sustainable is Hema?
Hema hasn’t mapped and published its complete supply chain emissions and doesn’t report on relevant environmental data, such as energy and water consumption throughout its supply chain. Besides that, the company still largely uses plastics for its consumer packaging. Concerning material sourcing, it’s doing great in terms of transparency and sustainability. The company purchased 97% more sustainable cotton with either the Better Cotton Initiative or other reputable organizations like GOTS or OCS. It aims to increase this to 100% in 2020. The company also publishes a tier 1 supplier list and is working on diving deeper into its supply chain to get insight into its tier 2 suppliers from high-risk countries.
Hema conducts external audits through its membership with Amfori BSCI, but doesn’t report on its findings. There is also no evidence of payment of a living wage.
