Maed for Mini is in the process of improving their transparency through their supply chain, but so far have provided little information regarding their suppliers and production facilities. Their facilities are located mostly in Europe, limiting transportation to trucks, but they don’t mention the locations of their other facilities. Their suppliers are also supposed to be certified by BSCI which ensures healthy workplace practices, but no further details are given, which makes this hard to verify. They however specify that they have a rigorous internal assessment process to ensure shared values with the suppliers, fair wages and proper working conditions. They also take care to maintain strong relationships with all the suppliers.
The brand also contributes to social charities such as ‘Because we Carry’ by donating unsold or sample garments to them.
Maed for Mini works with cotton and polyester, partly organic cotton, and partly recycled polyester as well in addition to their conventional alternatives. They also say their suppliers hold certifications such as GOTS and Oeko Tex. GOTS ensures sustainable production of the raw materials, with little effect on the environment. Oeko-tex ensures healthy chemical use, avoiding hazardous and toxic chemicals while making the garments. This, however, has not been verified as the certifications are not posted on the website. They also admit that they have a lot to do to improve in this area still.
Their packaging is made from mostly biodegradable bags, and some from recycled polyester bags. They also carefully plan their production quantities to avoid overproduction, and whatever leftover garments or fabrics they have are used for limited edition styles, donated to charity or sold to secondhand stores. This keeps the garments from being dumped in garment waste mountains.
Maed for Mini uses their deadstock material for limited edition styles, which contributes to their circularity. Besides this, the brand does not mention anything regarding circularity, neither do we know of their garment’s materiality to determine whether they use mostly monomaterial garments or material blends. We hope to find more information regarding this soon.
The brand produces 80% of its clothing within Europe, keeping the transportation as short as possible. They also mention the use of trucks for transportation within Europe. However, they don’t specify how many facilities they have, and in which locations, and their method of transport from the facilities outside of Europe.
Maed for Mini does not use any animal materials, hence can be considered a vegan brand.
Maed for Mini uses mature colours, soft materials, and designs for durability. The clothes are designed to be passed down to next generations, and advocates secondhand concepts.
Maed for Mini still has a very long way to go regarding transparency. They need to provide details regarding their suppliers, production facilities, certification proof, etc.
