Much of the collection is stitched by designer Johanna herself in her own workshop in Ghent, Belgium. Some items from the interior collection are made in the sewing workshop of VZW De Welvaartkapoen in Brussels.
All knitwear and knitwear is made by specialised producer Knitwood in Deurne.
To ensure that even the fabrics are made in good working conditions, Ida & Volta made a strict selection of suppliers. The brand thus ensures that they only work with producers where good working conditions and fair wages are guaranteed.
To have as little impact on the environment as possible, Ida & Volta opts for natural materials. The Belgian brand works with suppliers that offer transparency about their production processes, preferring local producers.
A commonly used material in the Ida & Volta collection is linen. This is a natural material whose manufacturing and cultivation has little impact on the planet. Ida & Volta uses linen from Belgium, produced by Libeco.
You will also find some wool clothing in the collection. These are made of Portuguese wool and Merino from Uruguay.
The organic cotton comes from a German supplier, and is traceable back to its country of origin. Moreover, the organic cotton is GOTS-certified (Global Organic Textile Standard). Which shows that no harmful chemicals are used in the production process. The cotton also has a Fair For Life label that evaluates social conditions in the production chain.
Finally, Ida & Volta also uses Tencel & Deadstock materials, but these will be phased out and will not appear in future collections.
Another aspect that Ida & Volta values is circularity. The brand therefore makes each garment from a single material. This way, after a good life, the piece can be given a second chance with a recycling process. In doing so, the brand ensures that even the stitching threads, labels and other parts are made of natural materials and can therefore be recycled.
To ensure the clothes have even less impact on the environment, and are even biodegradable, the brand is increasingly using undyed fabrics in its designs. These fabrics result in natural shades of colour and contain no chemical dyes.
Ida & Volta has a short supply chain as all clothes are designed and made in Belgium. Moreover, some of the materials are also sourced from European countries such as Belgium, Germany and Portugal.
Nevertheless, the brand also has some further links in its supply chain. The merino wool, for instance, comes from Uruguay, and the cotton is grown in Uganda & Israel.
Ida & Volta attaches great importance to animal welfare, and therefore ensures they have full transparency about their materials. The wool comes from small farms in Serra da Estrela, Portugal. Where the sheep are given plenty of space in the mountains and sheared by hand using traditional methods.
The merino wool comes from small farmers in Uruguay. The cashmere is always recycled so it doesn’t come directly from animals.
Ida & Volta has been known for their timeless and elegant fashion with comfort since 2019. The Belgian brand creates stylish women’s collections that envelop you in simple luxury, with no worries for the planet!
Ida & Volta works with small stocks, with many designs being made only after you order it. This way, the brand is sure to avoid unnecessary stocks. Moreover, it also allows you to have a garment made to measure!
Twice a year, the brand organises a pop-up where you can discover and try on the clothes, here limited stock is on hand.
Want to know exactly where the cotton or linen comes from? No problem, because Ida & Volta provides you with all the info. The brand only works with companies that allow their employees to work in good conditions and pay them a fair wage. That is why the brand always makes a selective choice of suppliers. Transparency is key at Ida & Volta.
