FAGUO selects its workshops by respecting the higher social and environmental standards vital for the men and women who work with FAGUO.
Faguo has everything produced in BCSI certified factories. These guarantee quality and follow strict social and ecological rules. The sneakers are made in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It produces regular shoes at a company in Porto, Portugal.
As a pioneer since 2009, FAGUO was the first French brand to include a provisional Carbon Footprint® in its Business Plan. They were already aware and set the tone: the first pair of FAGUO jeans, shoes, or sneakers had to emit less CO2 than was originally planned.
Faguo plants a tree in France for every pair sold. This is how it wants to prevent deforestation.
They use recycled polyester to make certain sneakers. The shoes, for example, are made of recycled PET and are therefore labeled: recycled. Those without a label are made from the chrome-free leather that carries the gold certificate of the Leather Working Group. The rubber sole is made from 15% recycled and 85% natural rubber. This is the case with all the shoes. Another category is the City Shoes, which are made of leather that has been tanned in Europe in order to keep their carbon footprint as small as possible. The composition of the sole of this species is unknown.
The packaging is made of recycled and recyclable materials. There is little or no glue and ink used.
Also, FAGUO associates with committed workshops that have signed guarantees to not use toxic substances that will harm Man and the planet.
80% of FAGUO pieces are conceived from waste materials: recycled materials that limit the use of resources and emit between 40% and 91% less CO2 than a virgin material. In addition, FAGUO recycles “Pre-Consumption” On a manufacturing assembly line, there are often scraps of raw materials: unusable scraps when leather pieces are cut out, edges of rubber soles… They can’t imagine wasting these materials so they systematically reuse them. The scraps are shredded and retreated to be reintegrated in other FAGUO pieces.
Then, they also recycle “Post-Consumption”. When a garment has been worn until it is extremely used, it must be placed in a recycling container in FAGUO’s boutiques. The pieces are shredded and become new textile fibers that compose our clothes of tomorrow.
For FAGUO the most important thing is not where they produce, but how they produce and the whole supply chain involved. By developing an international model and being aware of the real climate challenge, FAGUO reinvents its entire supply chain to emit as little CO2 as possible using a workshop in France, but not only there, as we can find the right expertise and the specific materials they need in Vietnam, Morocco, China or Portugal.
The leather used on their shoes is gold certified by the Leather Working Group and is tanned without chrome VI. This ensures its sustainability for the planet and its quality.
So FAGUO pieces don’t have an impact on the planet, FAGUO boutiques take back no-longer-worn FAGUO garments in its second-hand corner. If they are in good shape, thet collect them and offer a voucher (up to 20% of the garment’s initial value). They resell them at a second-hand price in their stores.
They also organize free, twice-monthly repair workshops in FAGUO boutiques. They repair any small rips and give a new life to any FAGUO pieces that need them. You can contact the boutique nearest you to know more.
On FAGUO’s website, you can find their Code of Conduct, detailed information about the actions they take to reduce their CO2 emissions, the materials they use in the manufacture of their shoes and the countries in which they manufacture their products.
However, COSH! does not have sufficient information on the specific names of the factories where they make their shoes.
