Hunkemoller started out as a special corset shop in Amsterdam in 1886. The company currently has over 800 stores, making it one of the biggest lingerie brands in Europe and it’s an industry leader in women’s underwear. While the company does show some signs of active improvement, like the implementation of a Code of Conduct and a membership with the BSCI, it’s simply not enough. It doesn’t offer any transparency into its operations, climate action or efforts towards more sustainably sourced materials. The focus at Hunkemöller seems to be on the expansion of the brand, and ethical, fair and environmental concerns seem to be a very low priority.
