Uni­ted War­drobe is a Dutch mar­ket­place for second­hand fashion.

Buying second hand is always bet­ter than buying new, even from a very sus­tai­nable brand. The fashion indus­try is one of the most pol­lu­ting indus­tries in the world. The manu­fac­tu­ring of clo­thing requires mate­rials, water, ener­gy and che­mi­cals and is often at risks of vio­la­ting labor rights and ani­mal wel­fare. Then there’s packa­ging, trans­por­ta­tion and other impacts you don’t even think about. While packa­ging and trans­por­ta­tion still hap­pens when you buy second hand, at least you buy a pre-owned piece of clo­thing for which no new pro­duc­tion is nee­ded. This makes buying second hand the most sus­tai­nable thing you can do to reduce your cli­mate impact. There are a lot of great ini­tia­tives like The Next Clo­set where you can buy ama­zing items for a great price. Because you never know what you’re going to find, it can be fun as well!
