Walk with me works ethi­cal­ly and local­ly to pro­du­ce its coll­ec­tions. Mate­ri­als such as the vegan lea­ther and metal buck­les are pro­du­ced in Spain. The pat­terns are cut by a spe­cia­li­sed work­shop after which the bags are made by the Walk with me team. The belts are made in Belgium. 

Becau­se Walk with me does the pro­duc­tion its­elf and works with local sup­pli­ers, the brand has a lot of con­trol over social con­di­ti­ons. So you can be sure that your bag is made in ethi­cal con­di­ti­ons!

Walk with me deve­lo­ped its own vegan lea­ther alter­na­ti­ve, ​‘future-lea­ther’, pro­du­ced in Spain. The mate­ri­al is made of recy­cled poly­ami­de and recy­cled poly­es­ter. Future-lea­ther meets the stan­dards of the Glo­bal Recy­cled Stan­dard (GRS). This means that at least 20% of the final pro­duct must con­sist of recy­cled fibres.

This fake lea­ther has a long life­span thanks to the poly­ure­tha­ne (PU) coa­ting appli­ed to it. This coa­ting gives the mate­ri­al a lea­ther look, with a wide ran­ge of colours also available. 

Moreo­ver, future-lea­ther is cer­ti­fied by OEKO-Tex. The fake lea­ther her­eby achie­ved the stan­dard 100 label, mea­ning it does not con­tain any harmful substances.

For the woven straps, Walk with me coope­ra­tes with a Bel­gi­an pro­duc­tion part­ner. This pro­du­cer also has the GRS and OEKO-Tex stan­dard 100 cer­ti­fi­ca­tes. The straps are made of a mix of recy­cled den­im, Ten­cel and polypropylene. 

Final­ly, Walk with me also uses metal parts such as buck­les and clo­sures in the bags. The­se are also pro­du­ced in Spain and are made of stain­less steel.

Walk with me deve­lo­ped the future lea­ther to offer a high-qua­li­ty and vegan alter­na­ti­ve to lea­ther. Becau­se the fake lea­ther is made of strong syn­the­tic mate­ri­als with a PU pro­tec­ti­ve coa­ting, the bags have a long life­span. Moreo­ver, the brand uses seve­ral recy­cled mate­ri­als as raw mate­ri­al, which slight­ly impro­ves its score on circularity.

Future lea­ther con­sists of a mix of dif­fe­rent syn­the­tic mate­ri­als. This makes it more dif­fi­cult to recy­cle. Nevert­hel­ess, the brand is com­mit­ted to chan­ging this. It the­r­e­fo­re takes an avera­ge of 2 – 3 months to deve­lop a new bag, after which it is tes­ted for ano­ther month.
