The Belgian Studio Mino was founded by business owner Barbara Vandenbunde. This makeup brand uses only natural ingredients and is also suitable for sensitive skin. The name Mino refers to minimalism and also to the minerals in the makeup products. But how sustainable is Studio Mino really? COSH! checked it out for you.
Natural ingredients
The ingredients at Studio Mino are of natural origin, but not from organic farming. Natural products are better for your skin than artificial alternatives. The lipstick is enriched with jojoba oil, carnauba and candelilla wax and vitamin E to keep your lips moisturized and soft. Fun fact: the compact eyeshadow contains jojoba oil from organic farming.
The mascara, eyeshadow, lip gloss, eyeliner, bronzer and lipstick are free of toxic materials such as nanoparticles, parabens, bismuth oxychloride, talc, formaldehyde, mineral oils, fillers, gluten, fragrances, preservatives and genetically modified ingredients. The makeup brushes have a bamboo handle and synthetic bristles.
Minerals
Studio Mino uses a variety of minerals including zinc, titanium and iron. These ingredients can be identified under: CI77891 (titanium), CI77491 (iron), CI77492 & CI77499 (iron). Iron in cosmetics is usually used in the form of iron oxide, to combat skin aging. Zinc stimulates cell renewal and thus also combats skin aging. In addition, zinc also makes your hair and nails grow better.
To give the makeup, eye shadow, lip gloss, lipstick and eye shadow a shiny effect, Studio Mino frequently uses ‘mica’ in their beauty products. Mica is a collective name for a group of minerals that give a pearly sheen to your makeup product. The silky texture feels pleasant and light on the skin. However, there is a great deal of controversy surrounding the mining of Mica over the unethical working conditions and the lack of transparency.
Animal Friendly
Studio Mino is vegan and cruelty-free. Thus, no animal ingredients can be found in the products and, in addition, they are not tested on animals. Also, the bristles in the makeup brushes are synthetic and therefore not of animal origin.
Circular Economy
The packaging, as with most makeup brands, is made of hard plastic. On that front, there is definitely room for improvement at Studio Mino!
