SNURK is based in Amsterdam, where all their products are designed. SNURK is in permanent collaboration with a Portuguese manufacturer for their production. Since strict labour laws and regulations apply in the European Union, we deduce that production takes place in ethical working conditions.
SNURK also travels to Portugal several times a year to supervise production. This contributes to a close relationship with their manufacturers yielding SNURK direct control and influence over the production process.
All SNURK products are made out of organic cotton. This is guaranteed by the GOTS label (Global Organic Textile Standard). GOTS is an independent organisation which inspects how organic cotton is produced. Organic cotton is grown without chemicals, which means that no chemical pesticides or fertilisers can be used. They also monitor working conditions.
All SNURK products also have the OEKO-Tex label. This label checks for the presence of chemicals in the end product so you know for sure that SNURK clothing and bedding is safe to sleep in.
SNURK is circular because they only use one material. When different materials are combined in clothes, it makes it much more difficult to recycle them after use as the different materials must first be separated.
Thankfully, all of SNURK’s products are made from at least 95% organic cotton. Organic cotton is a natural material free of harmful chemicals making it recyclable and biodegradable after use!
SNURK products are designed in the Netherlands and produced in Portugal. As the distances are relatively short, the brand has chosen to transport by road to avoid polluting air transport.
However, the origin of the cotton is not known. The biggest cotton production countries are India, the United States and Brazil. SNURK’s supply chain might therefore be longer than it seems.
SNURK attaches great importance to the quality of their products. The cotton they use is high-quality, with a higher thread count than average bedding. This ensures that the fabric is stronger, smoother and softer to the touch. The yarns are also combed to remove impurities and lint.
