The Peruvian Carolina Egúsquiza, together with her husband, got butterflies in the stomach when she saw the alpacas in Peru. The production of the animal’s wool intrigued them and the meeting with a family business took the first step towards their own brand. RUANA is dresses, sweaters, tops, trousers and accessories made from the wool of the cutest animal in the world: the alpaca.
Wooly, woolier, wooliest
Every RUANA garment is made of alpaca or baby alpaca. The animal is shaved completely cruelty-free. For her summer collections, Ruana Mundo sometimes uses a blend of silk or linen. This makes the garment feel lighter on the body.
Because Alpacas come in different neutral colours, the wool hardly ever has to be coloured. RUANA’s garments are therefore in the same shades. This also makes the brand wonderfully timeless and therefore also slow fashion.
In addition, RUANA only produces in small quantities to prevent overproduction. When it comes to packaging, the brand also thinks of the environment. For example, it uses biodegradable bags and covers made from corn.
