NUTT Amsterdam

Esther has a degree in cos­tu­me design from the Ams­ter­dam Fashion Insti­tu­te (AMFI) and it was while wat­ching a docu­men­ta­ry on the issue of tex­ti­le was­te that she deci­ded to crea­te NUTT. NUTT means ​“useful” in Dutch. She coll­ects fabrics and unworn clo­thes from tho­se around her that would have wound up in the trash and makes the bla­zers hers­elf in her work­shop. No risk of poor working con­di­ti­ons as she does ever­y­thing hers­elf. In addi­ti­on, the manu­fac­tu­ring is local. As a dress­ma­ker, she wants to make a dif­fe­rence and hopes that the peo­p­le wea­ring her bla­zers will share the sto­ry, so that the indus­try will even­tual­ly beco­me more envi­ron­men­tal­ly friendly.

Bla­zers are made from fabrics and garm­ents that other­wi­se would have been thrown away. You will find bla­zers mixed with jeans, mili­ta­ry jackets, other bla­zers, bom­bers, and old shirts. The­se clo­thes are assem­bled with old qua­li­ty bla­zers. She only uses Guter­mann thread, a very high-qua­li­ty thread that adapts to all types of fabrics and is resistant to breaka­ge. No but­ton or rib­bon is added. She reu­ses the but­tons alre­a­dy pre­sent on the bla­zer or the item to be assem­bled. Your bla­zer is the­r­e­fo­re dura­ble and eco-responsible.

NUTT is a com­ple­te­ly cir­cu­lar brand. Clo­thes that would have ended up in the land­fill are reu­sed and given a second chan­ce. NUTT encou­ra­ges con­su­mers to share its approach and rea­li­ze that ever­yo­ne can make a difference.

The sup­p­ly chain is short as the clo­thes are coll­ec­ted local­ly and made in its own work­shop in Amsterdam.

Sin­ce the brand works with the dona­ti­ons it recei­ves, some clot­hing may come from ani­mals. Some NUTT bla­zers, for exam­p­le, may con­tain wool. As a result, thanks to the brand, bla­zers or other woo­len items are reu­sed. This is gre­at becau­se it avo­ids har­ve­s­t­ing new wool and the mate­ri­al is natu­ral and sustainable.

Upcy­cling is and always will be tren­dy and it’s good for the pla­net. Sin­ce the foun­der makes the bla­zers hers­elf, they are available in small quan­ti­ties. A bla­zer remains an essen­ti­al in a ward­ro­be, your NUTT bla­zer will go with ever­y­thing. In addi­ti­on, you will stand out by having a uni­que bla­zer that is tru­ly a work of art. The bla­zers are uni­sex, so you can lend it or give it to whoe­ver you want.
