Esther has a degree in costume design from the Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI) and it was while watching a documentary on the issue of textile waste that she decided to create NUTT. NUTT means “useful” in Dutch. She collects fabrics and unworn clothes from those around her that would have wound up in the trash and makes the blazers herself in her workshop. No risk of poor working conditions as she does everything herself. In addition, the manufacturing is local. As a dressmaker, she wants to make a difference and hopes that the people wearing her blazers will share the story, so that the industry will eventually become more environmentally friendly.
