Are you looking for quality and dressy vegan shoes? Then Gentleberg is the place to be!
The story of this Amsterdam-based shoe label started in 2017 with the search for a dress shoe for 28-year-old Matthijs Berg. He soon discovered that there were no vegan alternatives on the market. The ball got rolling and Matthijs Berg started his own vegan dress shoe label, Gentleberg was born.
Materials
To produce vegan leather, many harmful chemicals were often used in the past. Today there is an alternative plastic: polyurethane (PU), which is less harmful but is still a plastic that requires fossil fuels. Therefore, at COSH! we are less fans of this plastic because it leaves plastics behind in the environment. Gentleberg hopes for new future innovations that can green the production process of polyutherane.
Vegan
A vegan shoe is made without animal materials. Raw materials that are tested on animals are also excluded. Even the glue, for example, is free of animal ingredients. So vegan shoes are not always the same as fake leather shoes.
COSH investigated whether vegan leather was effectively better for the environment. What turned out; that’s not necessarily the case. Read the blog on vegan leathers here.
Circular Economy
For the outer soles of its Casual Friday Sneakers, Gentleberg uses recycled rubber, which in turn is also 100% recyclable. At COSH! we are curious to see if Gentleberg will also use recycled plastic options in the rest of its production in the future!
