Behind the epekes brand is Mª Ángeles Ruiz, a woman with extensive experience in the children’s textile industry, who decided to create her own brand of locally and sustainably produced children’s clothing.
All her garments are produced by artisans, in a textile workshop a few kilometres from her workshop, in order to guarantee unique pieces with very careful finishes and details.
The aim of epekes is to create garments that respect the planet and the people who inhabit it, which is why they are committed to sustainable fabrics.
It uses top quality fabrics such as ECOVero viscose, obtained from sustainable wood and cellulose from certified sources, and organic cotton, with the quality guarantee of the GOTS and OCCGuarantee® seal, which ensures that the cotton is grown under strict criteria of respect for the environment, human rights and professional ethics. In addition, the colour of their garments is acquired through natural dyes, so they guarantee that the garment is free of chemicals that are so harmful to the sensitive skins of the little ones.
This natural dyeing process requires less water, less time and less energy consumption. All their fabrics are chosen for their low environmental impact, thus meeting their standards of creating garments that respect the planet and the people who inhabit it.
The epekes collection scores well in terms of circularity. The garments are always mono-material. That means that a garment is 100% made of one single material, no mixtures. This makes the clothes easier to recycle when you dispose of them. Natural materials, such as cotton and wool, are biodegradable.
In addition, as a future project, they have the idea of including a collection service on their website to prevent garments from ending up in landfills, and to give them a second life, selling the garments again at a cheaper price than the initial price.
At epekes they are committed to local and sustainable production, which is why each of the pieces in their collections are made a few kilometres away from their workshop in Murcia (Spain), thus guaranteeing “zero kilometre” in all their productions.
In addition, it works with manufacturers and suppliers in Europe. In particular, its main fabric supplier is from Spain.
Currently epekes is a brand that does not use animal-derived fabrics – good news for animal lovers!
However, they are planning to introduce merino wool. However, they want to use merino wool from a supplier that works artisanally and with respect for animals.
At epekes they believe that sustainability is also about design choices, so they create timeless, unisex pieces with soft, quality fabrics that last through the seasons.
epekes is a transparent brand!
COSH! was able to talk to the founder of the brand, and they provided us with information about where they make their products, the names of their suppliers and even information about certificates.
