Gerhilde Maakt

Gerhilde produces all candles by hand in her workshop in Berchem, using rapeseed wax. The rapeseed wax is grown in Europe, which we at COSH! love because we can rely on good working conditions with suppliers within Europe.

Traditional candles, made from paraffin (a byproduct of petroleum), are not healthy to breathe in. Gerhilde’s candles are made from rapeseed wax, plant-based, natural, and biodegradable and have a 30 – 45% longer burn time than paraffin candles.

Her home fragrances are based on renewable sources. Gerhilde exclusively chooses pure fragrances without toxics.

All candles come in a glass jar.

Gerhilde has been making candles from a young age, always with a focus on sustainability. She started by reusing remnants of old candles and gradually delved into rapeseed wax, a biodegradable and renewable source. Candles that do not meet the store standard due to colour deviations or because they are test models are still considered of quality to use. To combat waste, Gerhilde offers these in surprise packages.

Gerhilde makes her candles by hand in her workshop in Berchem, from plant-based, biodegradable rapeseed wax from Europe, resulting in a beautiful local product with a short chain.

The candles and home fragrances contain no animal materials, making them vegan. They are also not tested on animals.

The rapeseed wax candles have a 30 – 45% longer burn time than paraffin candles.

Gerhilde even offers tips on her website for enjoying her products for an even longer time.

She also offers refills for the home fragrance.

Gerhilde is open and honest about the production of her candles and the European origin of the rapeseed wax.

However, COSH! has not been able to find specific details about the origin of the used fragrances.
