Workshop Visible Mending

Hole in a favo­uri­te gar­ment? Repa­ir your own clot­hes with beauti­ful visi­ble embro­idery. That way, you can turn it into a unique piece that will last a long time! You will learn how to do this at De Steek.

In this wor­k­shop, you will repa­ir holes with embro­idery stit­c­hes and dif­fe­rent pat­ter­ns. During this sessi­on, you will learn to turn somet­hing bro­ken into somet­hing beauti­ful. Visi­ble men­ding is expe­ri­en­cing a revi­val in con­tem­po­rary fashi­on, as we are not hap­py with fast fashi­on and throwing away items, even tho­ugh they are still favo­uri­te pieces with minor flaws, for example.

This tec­h­nique is used to rein­for­ce worn fabric to make it last lon­ger. Stit­c­hing can be deve­lo­ped into intri­ca­te geome­tric pat­ter­ns in dif­fe­rent colo­urs of thre­ad and with lef­to­ver fabrics on the back. Besi­des men­ding clot­hes, you can also use this tec­h­nique to easily embel­lish your sewing pro­jec­ts with beauti­ful designs.

We also give you some more ins­pi­ra­ti­on and opti­ons for using embro­idery to repa­ir your clot­hes. No sewing or embro­idery expe­ri­en­ce is needed. All tools and mate­ri­als are provided.*

*A basic kit with materials/​tools and an ins­truc­ti­on book­let is inclu­ded. But you may also bring a gar­ment to sew on (pre­fe­ra­bly non-stret­ch, such as denim).
