Norgäte works with Peruvian ateliers for the production of their collections. Norgäte self-verifies that the ateliers meet their ethical standards and quality requirements. The brand currently works with several production ateliers in Arequipa, Cusco and Lima, among others. These workshops ensure that more than 150 families in the region receive a fair and steady income.
Several products in the Norgäte collection have a Peru Fair Trade label. For these products, the working conditions are monitored by the Peruvian Fair Trade organization.
The materials themselves also come from Peru. Norgäte works with Peruvian manufacturers such as Michell, Inca Tops and Ittessa for this purpose.
Norgäte uses only materials sourced from Peru. Most of the collection is made of alpaca wool. Alpaca is a very soft wool. Thanks to the lack of lanolin it is also hypoallergenic. The alpaca lives in the high mountains of Peru. Therefore, the alpaca wool industry is very important for the economy and the local population. In addition, Norgäte also uses sheep’s wool and merino wool in their collection.
To further reduce their impact on the environment, Norgäte chooses natural dyes. This prevents the brand from using harmful chemicals that could end up in wastewater.
The materials Norgäte uses in their collection are OEKO-Tex certified. In doing so, the materials are also AZO-free and comply with REACH regulations. This organization checks that no harmful chemicals are present in a product. So the fact that Norgäte’s products comply with this proves that they are completely safe!
Other materials used by Norgäte are also sustainable. For example, they use buttons made from coconut or Taguanut. The labels on the clothes are made of the vegan and innovative piñatex leather. Finally, the brand also chooses sustainable alternatives for the packaging material! The paper and cardboard is recycled and has the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) label for sustainable forest management.
The Norgäte collection uses mostly natural materials such as alpaca and merino wool. As mentioned earlier, the products are also free of harmful chemicals. Therefore, after use, these products are biodegradable and thus circular. It is important here that there are no synthetic materials in the product. So be sure to check the label for the composition of your product!
Norgäte has a short production chain because all manufacturers and production workshops are located in Peru. Only the design of the products takes place in Sweden. Still, the products have to travel a long distance to get from Peru to you.
The Norgäte collection is made of alpaca, sheep’s wool and merino wool. The brand only works with materials that are certified.
For the alpaca wool, for example, there is the RAS label (Responsible Alpaca Standard). In this way, Norgäte wants to ensure that the alpaca wool comes from farms that take a progressive approach to land management and respect animal welfare. In doing so, farmers are checked to see if they score well on all of the animal welfare issues; nutrition, habitat, management, transportation and handling.
For sheep’s wool and merino wool, Norgäte uses similar labels.
Norgäte designs their clothes with longevity in mind. Therefore, the brand also opts for a timeless and elegant style. The brand designs for a sense of simplicity, combined with luxury and functionality.
Alpaca is a strong material especially known for its softness. To keep your wool sweater or scarf beautiful, Norgäte recommends washing it at lower temperatures and not putting it in the dryer.
Norgäte is well transparent in terms of the manufacturers they work with. Unfortunately, this is not the case with the products themselves. It is difficult to find out what the composition is.
It seems that the products are made of 100% wool. Nevertheless, it is possible that there is a small part of acrylic in here to improve the shape retention of the clothes.
Since 2016, Swedish brand Norgäte has been bringing elegant and luxurious fashion. The brand combines their Scandinavian style with Peruvian craft. The clothes are made in Peru from local alpaca wool. This soft wool keeps you warm and is hypoallergenic. Ideal for a warm winter outfit without the itch!
