Ganni works with several manufacturing partners to produce their clothes. These partners and suppliers include Portugal, Spain, Italy, India, Bulgaria, Turkey, China and Greece.
Ganni takes several steps to ensure their collections are ethically produced. They are for example, a member of B‑corp. This is an organisation that helps companies build ethical and fair production chains.
In addition, Ganni is also a member of the Fair Wear Foundation. This organisation monitors working conditions in factories and workshops. As Ganni recently became a member, the results of the ‘brand performance check’ are not yet known.
Finally, the Danish brand uses many certified materials, including GOTS-certified organic cotton. This label audits not only the use of chemicals, but also checks the working conditions in the production process.

Since 2020, Ganni has published an annual sustainability report in which the brand has developed various goals. This report also shows the progress made, including on aspects such as their CO2 emissions, material use and gender equality.
Ganni uses many different materials in their collection, sustainable and less sustainable ones. Their sustainability report does show that the brand is actively working to move towards more sustainable materials. For instance, they banned leather from the fashion collection in 2021, and it is a goal to use only sustainable alternatives to cotton, viscose, and polyester materials by 2023.
Currently, more than half of all materials used are natural, including organic cotton, cotton, wool and leather. 39% Of the materials are synthetic such as polyester, elastane, polyamide and recycled polyester. In addition, Ganni also uses viscose, lyocell and Tencel.
When it comes to packaging materials, Ganni also wants to reduce their impact. That is why the brand works together withRePack. This way, all online orders are shipped in reusable packaging.
Ganni’s clothes are not always very recyclable. Mixing different materials in one garment complicates the recycling process. The brand does want to become more circular and therefore increasingly uses recycled materials such as GRS certified wool, cotton and polyester (Global Recycling Standard).
Customers can also come to Ganni to bring in their old clothes. The brand has several collection points in Sweden and the UK. Ganni then also wants to enable the sale of second-hand clothes in their shops and webshop.
In doing so, Ganni has a project to work out the recycling of clothes and production waste. Currently, however, only production waste is recycled into new Ganni designs.

Ganni does not have a short production chain. The brand works with more than 115 producers across more than 10 countries. Some production takes place in the European Union, for example in Portugal, Spain and Italy. However, most of the clothes are made in China, Turkey and India.
Various animal materials are used in the Ganni collection. The brand does want to ensure that these materials are respectful of animals and nature. Therefore, the brand has an extensive code of conduct that included animal welfare and mainly uses certified materials such as GOTS-certified silk and sheep and merino wool with the RWS label (Responsible Wool Standard).
The brand is also taking steps to use fewer materials of animal origin. All leather was banned from the fashion collection in 2021 and will also be removed from the accessories and footwear collection in 2023. The material will be replaced by vegan alternatives such as Mylo and Vegea leather. These are synthetic leathers made from plant-based materials such as fungi and grape waste.

Ganni is also taking steps in the right direction when it comes to slow fashion. The brand no longer works with seasonal collections, but releases several new designs throughout the year. This way, production is spread out more and in smaller quantities.
Ganni also wants to extend the life of their products by offering maintenance tips and a repair service. As the brand has many different sale points, this repair service is not yet available everywhere.
You can bring in your old Ganni clothes at one of the collection points. The brand is exploring the possibilities of collecting and selling second hand clothes in their shops or webshop. This shows that the clothes have a long lifespan!
In addition, Ganni also has a rental service. Through the Ganni Repeat platform, you can easily rent clothes, ideal for special occasions!
Ganni has been working hard on their sustainability since 2020, including mapping their supply chain. This also ensures that the brand improves its transparency by disclosing their manufacturers.
So, the brand scores pretty well in terms of transparency as they disclosed much of their suppliers and manufacturers. The brand also provides a lot of information about their used materials and certificates.
