Aurelia Paumelle is a one-woman brand focusing on artisanal garment production utilising traditional tailoring methods, including hand-drawing, prototyping and hand-cutting. Her entire collections are created in her boutique atelier based in Prenzlauer Berg and together with a small atelier in Poland. Her designs are created with personally sourced, fairly-traded, dead-stock fabrics and individual garments she discovers at fleamarkets, and vintage stores, upcycling them into new creations. She has not disclosed how the materials are manufactured.
Aurelia avoids using virgin materials, focusing on dead-stock fabrics and upcycling. Instead, she uses a mix of natural materials and synthetics that have been fairly traded. By upcycling vintage and second-hand clothing, she also reduces her environmental impact.
Both her design and packaging choices are made with circularity in mind. Aurelia reclaims old packaging boxes from neighbouring shops and fully upcycles all fabric scraps into beautiful bags and jackets.
All individual garments are created personally and in-house or in a small atelier in the nearby Polish city of Szesczin. The dead-stock fabrics are all personally sourced through one, Parisian-based supplier. Vintage garments and haberdashery are sourced in Berlin.
Aurelia incorporates upcycled leather by using vintage and second-hand leather jackets. In addition, her woollen fabrics are recycled and of European origin.
Aurelia’s designs are made-to-last, exceptionally tailored and made of premium materials. With appropriate care, the pieces can be enjoyed for many years.
Aurelia does not disclose her suppliers and cannot fully trace her textiles to their origins. She designs, creates and packages all garments herself.
