The A•Brandsma collection is entirely designed and made in the atelier in Rotterdam. Designer Amber makes everything herself, with the help of her team. As the brand grows, A‑Brandsma also collaborates with local production workshops in the Netherlands.
So you can rest assured that your purchase was ethically and locally produced!
Many different materials are used in the A•Brandsma collection. For a small brand like A•Brandsma, it is not possible to produce fabrics itself (or have them produced). The brand therefore buys fabrics from different manufacturers.
Most of these manufacturers work sustainably and also have the certificates to prove it. For example, the GOTS certificate (Global Organic Textile Standard). This certificate checks the entire production process of organic cotton. It prohibits the use of chemicals and also looks at social conditions.
Besides organic cotton, A•Brandsma also uses synthetic materials such as nylon or elastane. These fabrics are less sustainable, which is why Amber Brandsma opts for deadstock materials. This means she uses surplus fabric from other brands or manufacturers.
Because A•Brandsma also uses deadstock materials in their collection, this improves the brand’s circularity. In this way, A•Brandsma uses fewer new materials.
Some garments are made of mono-materials. This means that the garment is made from the same material, for example 100% wool. This makes the clothes easier to recycle after use.
A•Brandsma also does repairs when needed. The brand offers a lifetime guarantee for free repair to all manufacturing defects. Moreover, you can also go there for other repairs or adjustments.
A•Brandsma has a short chain because the clothes are made locally in Rotterdam. Moreover, the material producers are largely based in Europe, so the fabrics do not have to travel long distances to the atelier.
The bulk of the collection contains no materials of animal origin and is therefore vegan! Wool is used in a few garments. However, these designs are made from deadstock materials, so no animals are directly involved in the production of the clothes.
A•Brandsma designs according to the philosophy of slow fashion. This means that the brand does not release a new collection every season. The brand releases new designs throughout the year, or new versions of existing designs.
Amber Brandsma draws inspiration from vintage clothing. The designs are timeless, complemented by stylish, vintage elements such as the twisted sleeve. The colourful collection features both cheerful prints and minimalist, solid-coloured designs. Ideal to combine in your wardrobe!
The Brandsma collection is made-to-order. This means that the clothes are only made when you order them. Only a few garments are in stock at the atelier in Rotterdam, where you can come and try them on. This way, A•Brandsma ensures there is no overproduction.
Because A•Brandsma makes all the clothes itself in its Rotterdam atelier, the brand is also very transparent about this. Moreover, the brand shared with COSH! the names of all the manufacturers they work with. As a result, A•Brandsma scores high on transparency.
Dutch designer Amber Bransma founded the eponymous brand A • Brandsma to work around her penchant for timeless, vintage designs.
