How sustainable is Q/S ?

Q/S is a fashion brand that is owned by the S.Oliver Group, a Ger­man fashion com­pany with a num­ber of brands.

The group has some initia­ti­ves to redu­ce its car­bon foot­print, like off­set­ting some of its ship­ping impact and using bet­ter finishing tech­ni­ques for its denim pro­duc­tion, but doesn’t track and publish its car­bon foot­print and doesn’t offer enough trans­pa­rency into its supply chain.

The com­pany is mainly focu­sing on impro­ving its mate­rial sour­cing. It wants to achie­ve 100% more sus­tai­na­ble cot­ton by 2030 and aims to increa­se that per­cen­ta­ge through its part­nerships with the Bet­ter Cot­ton Initia­ti­ve and Cot­ton Made in Afri­ca. The last known per­cen­ta­ge of more sus­tai­na­ble cot­ton was only 5%, and the tar­get for 2020 is set at 15%. The com­pany is mohair-free sin­ce 2020, but still uses ani­mal-deri­ved mate­rials, like wool and leather, from uncer­ti­fied sour­ces.

S.Oliver Group has a Code of Con­duct and is a mem­ber of the Fair Labor Asso­cia­tion, which con­ducts inde­pen­dent audits, but doesn’t report on the audit fre­quency or results and doesn’t pro­vi­de enough trans­pa­rency con­cer­ning labor rights.
