How sustainable is Savara Intimates?

This screening has been done by Fairify on May 22nd 2020

Savara Intimates is a locally produced and sustainable Dutch lingerie brand. The small company produces everything in-house in the Netherlands, so it has complete control over the quality and environmental impact of its products. The lingerie has a clever adjustable size system, which extends its lifespan. Local ateliers in Amsterdam and Zeist deliver a quality product that is handcrafted and made with care under great working conditions.

Savara Intimates is transparent about what its products are made of. Its tencel fabrics originate in Turkey and are certified by Oeko-Tex 100, which ensures that no harmful chemicals are used in the production process. The Dutch brand combines these tencel fabrics with fabric surplus materials that originate from both Italy and Latvia, and have the Global Recycled Standard certificate. Watch out with the cups though, these are still made from polyurethane and polyester, which are derived from oil. The company is completely transparent about this, states that it’s looking for alternatives and encourages customers to reuse cups they already have. Furthermore, Savara Intimates does not use any animal products in its production process, which makes them a vegan brand.

Finally, let’s look at environmental performance. The company plants a tree for every product it sells and uses conscious and sustainable packaging. With its local production Savara Intimates keeps transportation at a minimum and its material sourcing policy does the same. The next step the company can take is the measurement and publication of its carbon footprint and renewable energy consumption.
